Billie Jean Thompson Weikel went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, October 29, 2014. She passed away in Houston, Texas, where she lived for 39 years with her loving husband, Charles Weikel.
Billie was born in Onida, Kentucky to Esther and Floyd Thompson on December 1, 1943. She grew up there with three sisters and five brothers, later moving to Ohio, where she met and married Charles. She and Charles were married on May 25, 1968, and were blessed with 46 years of marriage. The joy of her life was her daughter Joanie and her two grandchildren, Zoe and Evan.
Earlier this year, Billie retired from Bosworth Paper Company after 30 years of service. While there, she worked in both the Accounting and the Human Resources Departments. She really loved her work and developed many lasting friendships at Bosworth.
Soon after Billie and Charles came to Houston, they found a church home at the First Baptist Church. They attended the downtown church for several Sundays, and then quickly joined the growing church as soon as it moved to the Katy Freeway location that same year. Billie always loved serving her church and found her special place in the First Baptist Preschool Ministry, caring for and loving on the little babies. First Baptist counts Billie as one of the longest serving Preschool teachers in their church history...serving 37 years! Billie not only cared for the babies, but she mentored many Preschool parents and volunteers.
Billie is survived by her husband Charles Weikel, daugther Joanie Papafote, granddaughter Zoe Papafote, grandson Evan Papafote, sisters Juanita Robertson and Glenna Davidson, and brothers James Thompson, Dallas Thompson, Larry Thompson, and Jerry Thompson.
In lieu of flowers, friends may honor Billie's life by donating to: Houston's First Baptist Church Preschool Ministry, 7401 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024.
