Billie Jean Word, 90, of Houston, Texas, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018. She was born January 17, 1928 in Tyler County, Texas. Billie Jean graduated from Clarksville High School and received a Diploma from Elliot Business School on June 25, 1945.
Billie Jean was married to James Daniel Word on October 15, 1947. Through this union, they were blessed with 3 children. She had a passion for arts and crafts, loved history, grew flowers and plants, and was famous for her jellies, jams and HOT salsa. "We're gonna miss that." Sharing her crafts was what it was all about. She enjoyed doing them, but enjoyed giving them more. While in Regent Care nursing home, Billie Jean was asked to teach a crocheting class to the other residents. She was proud to share her talents and be an advocate for others.
Billie Jean is survived by; son Bobby and wife Marilyn Word; son Ronnie Word and significant other Michelle Chong; grandchildren Danny Word, Priestly Ledger, Brandie Sanchez, Chris Word, Nicole Bassett, and Ryan Word. She also leaves 12 great grandchildren to cherish her memory.
Billie Jean was preceded in death by her spouse James Daniel Word; daughter Brenda K Word.
A visitation for Billie Jean will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A funeral service will follow on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, also at Brookside Funeral Home. A committal service and burial will follow at Brookside Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039.
