Billy was born on the 17th of October, 1937 to George and Norma Sheppard in Channelview, Texas. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School of Baytown in 1955, and went on to study at the University of Houston and later served in the United States Air National Guard.
A gifted salesman, Billy worked for several companies throughout the years including Foley’s, Revlon, Pillsbury, Corporate Express, and Stephen’s Office Products.
Billy was predeceased by his parents and his half-brother, George Sheppard Jr. He is survived by his devoted wife of 18 years, Gerry Williamson-Sheppard of Sugar Land, Texas; his children, Rodney Sheppard, and wife Nancy of Katy, Texas, Kimberly Sheppard of Houston, Texas, Callian Kattner and husband, Nathan of Needville, Texas; stepson Trey Williamson of Manchaca, Texas; three grandchildren, Mackenzie Kattner, Walker Kattner, and Savannah Kattner; nephew Ben Sheppard and wife Chris of California.
Billy was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was a rock and a confidant to many. His roles extended beyond being a dad and husband—though to us, those were his greatest. He was also "Poppy" to his grandchildren, a coworker and colleague, and a deacon and leader in the church. Billy was a man after God’s heart. He cherished his family, enjoyed working, helping others, managing his ranch, golfing, hunting, tending to his horses, spending time with his dog "Princess," and had a passion for cars and tractors. But above all, he loved his Savior, Jesus Christ.
For 35 years, Billy was a dedicated member of Second Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, class director, and participated in the Angel Tree Ministry, Winning Walk Prayer Ministry, Men’s Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), and Promise Keepers. Billy also cherished his days riding with the Desperado's Salt Grass Trail Riders.
Billy's life was a testament to his faith, love for family, and commitment to serving others.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff at Sugar Land Methodist Hospital, The Auberge of Sugar Land, Billy’s caretaker and friend Daniel Ezekiel, and all the prayer warriors who went to battle for him. You are loved and appreciated. God bless you all.
Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Billy during a memorial reception from noon until two o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 27th of August, in the grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
