

Bob, born in Plainview, TX on May 1, 1930 to T H and Ethel Duff, died June 23, 2024 at the age of 94. During the Great Depression and World War 2 the family moved frequently, living at times in Plainview, Sweetwater, Dalhart, Dallas, Snyder and Lubbock. Bob graduated from Lubbock High School in 1948 and entered, what was then, The Texas Technological College, graduating in 1952 with a B.S. in Physics. Moving to the University of Texas in Austin he worked in UT’s Defense Research Laboratory, also receiving an M.A. degree in Physics in 1959. Bob met and fell in love with the former Elinor L. Warner and they were married in 1961. Deciding to return to school he entered Harvard University in 1971and earner a Ph. D. degree in Applied Physics. He taught in Electrical Engineering Departments at Northeastern University and The University of Mississippi before joint SouthWest Research Institute in San Antonio, TX in 1977. At the time of his retirement in 2005 he was Vice President in charge of the Applied Physics Department. Following retirement, he continued his long-time interest in the study of Physics and other topics in Science. Wife Elinor and sister Betty preceded Bob in death, and he is survived by his four sons and their families who will hold a small private memorial.
