Our mother, Bobbie, was born May 17, 1928 in Houston, Texas to Robert and Claire Bivens. She grew up on Houston Ave. and loved to play in Woodland Park with her sisters, Shirley and Susie, when she was young. On Valentine's Day in 1947, she married Melvin Jones and they built a home in NW Houston, where they began attending Heights First Baptist Church. They made many friends there, but later, moved to Garden Oaks Baptist Church where mom was still a member at the time of her death. Her love of children was what led her to become the director of the Nursery at Garden Oaks for 24 years. Hundreds of children came through those nursery doors and were blessed because of her desire to teach young ones about Jesus. In our extended family, our cousins used to call her a little firecracker because she loved to be busy!! She loved to cross-stitch, play Liverpool rummy with friends, work in her back yard, feed the birds and watch them while she drank her coffee. We imagine she is Christmas shopping in Heaven right now because she always loved Christmas and started her Christmas shopping in July! Mother was loving and kind. She had 3 dogs that she loved dearly: Missy, Susie, and Rosie. And last but not least, mother LOVED red. Her kitchen, den, and bedroom were always decorated with red décor.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin L. Jones, her father and mother, Robert and Claire Bivens, and both of her younger sisters, Shirley Ann Pilsner, and Martha Sue Poppenhusen.
She is survived by her daughter Cindy Morgan and husband Michael, her daughter Carolyn Holland and husband Michael, and her son Wesley Jones and wife, Erica. She is also leaving 6 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
The family wants to thank the Forum Assisted Living Memory Care; especially Anna and AnnMarie.
We also thank Crossroads Hospice (Dawn and Sonia) for helping us through this long journey.
There will be a service at the graveside for immediate family only.
*In 2003, we made a short video of memories with mom. She told us her favorite scripture was "This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it" Psalm 118:24. And when she was asked to leave us words of wisdom, she said: "Live a clean life and stay close to your family."
