Bohumil Greif, born on Christmas day 1934, as he would always say "I am baby Jesus". He lived through World War II and the Cold War. Through his life, during the wars, he lived through many struggles and hardships. He escaped his country during a time of communism in 1966. He got his valuables and left; sadly, he could not say good bye to his family. He fled to Austria and lived there for a year. He then moved to Paris, France and lived there until 1968. He left to the United States to obtain the American dream and arrived in Baltimore, Maryland.
In New York City, 1972, he married Teresa Garavito. They moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1973 and had their first daughter, Linda Greif, in July of 1973 and their second daughter, Monica Greif, in August of 1975. The Greif family moved to Houston, Texas in October of 1976, where Bohumil found work in his profession as a Photo Engraver/Designer at the Houston Chronicle. He worked there for 25 years until retirement. He traveled back home to visit his family in Czech Republic and enjoyed his quality time, making up the missed years of his life, with his siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends. During his retirement years, he helped his daughter Linda take care of his granddaughter, Nadia Katerina, while her parents worked and Linda finished school.
While retired he met Ada Altamirano at his favorite German restaurant the Old Heidelberg, they would always go dancing and they both enjoyed dancing so much, also traveling and spending time with their families. In 2002 they got married and they had been happily married until Bohumil passed away and took his last breath on August 3, 2014 by his wife's side.
Bohumil is deeply missed and remembered by his cute Eastern European accent, rosy red cheeks and joyful and loving demeanor. He was a very kind, loving, and affectionate father, grandfather, husband, stepfather, stepgrandfather, uncle and friend. He was always smiling and being silly. He was full of laughter, love, and life. He showed so much love to everyone who knew him. He was a giving person; he never had much and always worked so hard and he was always so generous with what he had and could give or share.
On behalf of the Greif family and extended family Stanczak family (stepdaughter Angie Stanczak and step grandchildren) his charming and adorable character will forever live in our hearts and souls.
Sincerely and very proud to be your daughters - Lindy and Mony
(the one you would say writes so much, talks so much and likes to tell stories).
