She completed high school at Howard County High School in Tollette, Arkansas and went on to obtain her B.S. Degree in Sociology at the University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff.
Upon her arrival to the Houston area, she united with Mount Corinth Missionary Baptist Church, in “greater Fifth Ward Houston”, under Rev. A. Louis Patterson, Jr. Under his preaching, her faith grew and she flourished as a witness for Christ. In her latter days, she united with Fallbrook Church in North Houston under the leadership of Pastor Michael Pender, Sr., where she put her faith into action and was an active member of the women’s ministry, prayer ministry and book club ministry.
She retired as a Community Relations Consultant for the Houston Police Department in Houston, Texas. During her tenure with HPD, she took joy in working in the community and two of her favorite groups were with the Ministers Against Crime and the Annual Grandparents Gala.
After retirement, Bonnie's passions included writing, traveling and spending time with loved ones. Although writing was not in her plan, every path led to writing and God’s plan prevailed when she realized He was calling her into a writing ministry. She wrote five inspirational novels: SEASONS, DESTINY, NOW AND THEN AGAIN, BEYOND THE BREAK, & FRAGMENTS. Bonnie’s books were recognized as best-sellers, recipients of awards and recognitions, read repeatedly, and used by some readers as devotionals. Her books have been, and continue to be, a blessing and motivation to countless readers to draw closer to God.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Londell and Helen Hopkins; three brothers: Donald, Jimmy Wayne and Bobby Hopkins; and one niece, Taylor Hopkins. She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter: Kym Fisher (son-in-law, Dr. Harold Fisher); two grandchildren: Nick and Sydnee Fisher; one bonus granddaughter, Brittani Fisher; two sisters-in-law: Angela Nelson Hopkins and Barbara Hopkins; one niece: Christal Hopkins; two nephews: Bobby and Justin (wife, Briana) Hopkins; and one great grandson: Amir Carson. Numerous other cousins/siblings, guardian children, friends, colleagues, coworkers and church members also mourn her death.
Her favorite passage of scripture was: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 - A Time for Everything
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.
