MEMORIAL TO A GREAT WARRIOR,  BOOTS JACKSON

 A great light has been taken from us, one of God's choice soldiers, faithful and loyal unto death.  Long ago she found life and purpose in surrendering her life to the One Who gave His life for her, the Lord Jesus.  And the rest of her days Boots Jackson loved and served Him by serving others.  
 There seems to be no end to the testimonies of those she loved, helped, cooked for, took up offerings for, gathered replacements for after belongings were lost to fire. She took entertaining and hospitality to the absolute max, and welcomed multitudes into her home, some for brief visits, others for long ones.  
Scripture says that “faith without works is dead.”  Boots believed that. Beyond that, she also   believed that love without works is worthless.  And the Bootsie kind of love marched on feet clad in combat boots.  She gathered people like nobody I have ever known--- small groups, large groups, and created settings for them to hear God's Word.  She hosted parties, blowouts, sleepovers, and group vacations for family and friend. And her undying purpose was to glorify Christ Jesus, to exalt Him, and help others to do the same. She played with them, fed them,  and always taught them God's truth.  When she learned Truth, she used it.  She talked it, she lived it.   She taught it with the intensity of a battering ram. 
 Our language lacks adequate superlatives to describe Boots Jackson. It's safe to say, however, that whatever she was,  she was more of it.  She seemed to love the phrase from Scripture describing Mary Magdalene,  “she hath done what she could.”  Boots did what she could, and it always seemed to be so much more than most of us could do.  I loved her from the moment I met her. Like many, I admired her and feared her a little.  But I loved her great heart for God.                 One morning soon after we met I sort of invited myself to her home to pray.   The intensity of her personality was so great that I had to go home and rest--- after a prayer meeting.  And for me that really was the best kind of introduction to Boots.  The sheer wattage of her personhood seemed to be in full flame all of the time.  As I got to know Boots better, I admired her more, loved her more. I loved the way she served the Lord, whole souled, and whole hearted,  with an output of work I could never have hoped to reach. I loved the way she truly beat the bushes, searched the byways of life to bring folk into the kingdom of God.   She personally led many to Christ, yes led.  And others she goaded, coerced, pushed, pulled, bullied, and some even arm-wrestled into the Kingdom.   I believe that it could be said of her, she tried to become whatever she needed to be so that the message of salvation could be understood by all.
For Bootsie's family:  I can only imagine how it was to be married to Boots---or to grow up under her leadership.  To live in her shadow.  But I can say with some certainty that it must have been challenging. 
Yes, a great light has been taken from us.  But Boots was really just a wonderful reflection of the true light, the Lord Jesus Christ.  And how she reflected Him!  He says, “Be faithful unto death, and  I will give you the crown of life.”  She was.   She has been taken from us, and ushered into the presence of God.
Thank you, Lord, for allowing us to know this great woman.  Boots has been taken from us, and no one can take her place. But we were not meant to.  Like King David, Boots served her own generation.  That is the task we all have.  To be all God created us to be, to serve our own generation, to be reflectors of the true Light, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Auntie Bootsie I didn't know you as well as others, but it was always a joy to come to your house for the Christmas parties and to see you at Thanksgiving at dad and June's house. I do know one thing for sure you are home with the Lord and I will never forget the smiles and the laughs you shared with us as a family. You will be truly missed and God's grace is with you forever on his holy throne. until the day comes we meet again!!!!!!!

Thank you for sharing your life with us all. You've touched so many and shared the Gospel with all you came in contact with. You are one of the most loving and giving of anyone I know. I'm so glad to have spent time and shared many memories with you. I've learned so much from you over the years and cherish every bit of wisdom you poured into me. I love you more than you know...

Dee do, thank you so much for teaching me about our lord and savior! I love you very much and you will be greatly missed.....i'm happy that you went home to see Jesus and nino....

Dee daw thank you for everything . You taught the word of god and lived it. You knew my parents before they married. I remember going with mom to pinemont baptist church you or aunt patsy would teach the ladies bible study the other would teach us kids and those wood chairs in a half circle. If you knew her you heard about the Lord.  She use to say if you weren't saved when you got in the car with her you would be when you got out.  I knew you my whole life and I have so many wonderful memories of you.  If you thought it you said it. Thank you for leading me to salvation and for giving me the desire to learn.  I loved being at your house and I loved how you and Jack were such a wonderful act always right on cue. I am sorry I cracked your ribs, I never thought of you as fragile!  Brenda, Tommy, Biddle and Sandra thank you for sharing you mother not only with me and my family but with all of us!  Y'all were always so sweet.  Tonight I am craving your spaghetti, so spicy but so good.  Thank you for being so fun.  Love, the little boy that gave sandra's purse away to a stranger! I guess you knew something was up from the start!

I only met her a couple of times as a child but she made an impression - never will forget here. She had a very loud and happy laugh ;)

My thoughts and prayers are with Deedaw's family during this time.  I only met her once, but she sure made an impact.  Funny and sweet!  I always love when Tammy would tell me about their visits.  I was always cracking up! She will surely be missed but will always be in our hearts.

What can I say about my Auntie Bootsie? She was a legend in her own lifetime. She was known for her tallish tales--and why not? She had to embellish until the story was as colorful and epic as she was. I can still hear you and see you, your voice booming and rising, hands flying, rings flashing, and all the many faces that animated your talk.  I think the imprint you made on all of us is just as vivid, and will be with us for the rest of our days.

I love you Deedaw, and whenever I feel a little shy about sharing the word of God, I will think of you, and then I know the courage will come to speak up and be bold for the Lord. I'm sure it's wonderful in heaven. Say Hi to my Allyson for me. I love you and will miss your Christmas stories among many other ways about you. No more "Goat Face" name calling in the house on game nights! You will live in our hearts 4 Ever!!  Love Moree

Dear Bootsie, My "Mother In The LORD" you will always be. Your love will always be in my heart. Your grace and faith you shared with me will always guide and direct me to and through Christ Jesus. Everything I am is because of seeds you have sown and prayers you have prayed. I saw the love of God through you. I learned to learn of Him through you. You are my "Paul", as he was to Timothy, you are to me. Thank you for sharing, loving and caring about the LORD and each of us! I remember the prayers you prayed about the kids being quiet as you and I studied together. (The prayers worked) I remember the prayer you prayed for me, when we first started studying, "that I would have a photographic memory of the scriptures and things I learned". (This Worked also)  I remember the lunches we had as we studied together in my apartment. Thank you for being used of God. Thank You Father, for bringing her into my life! You will be remembered, always Bootsie.  May God Bless each of us, her family and friends with peace and comfort....Love You Always!

Bootsie showed me a Christianity that was rich in laughter, fun, fellowship, w/lots of hugs & pure joy. I look forward to continuing our relationship when I graduate too.

I have great memories of Boots. She was always bigger than life, had a great attitude and was full of love. 
My prayers are with the family as they lay this sweet woman to rest. No doubt she is in heaven reunited with those who have gone before.

Well, it's been a long time knowing ya - I'd say 55 yrs. didn't like ya when I 1st met ya, but the Lord got ya as one of His children - u became a different person..Love ya lady bug... will c ya again....

I know that this is a great loss to her family and she will be missed.  She was a special person and loved by all that knew her.  Our Prayers go out to her loved ones in their time of sorrow.

Dear Jackson and extended families, I and my family had the pleasure of meeting DeeDaw through her grand daughter DeAnna Black. DeeDaw was obviously in love with the Lord and His people! DeeDaw was generous, always in a good mood, quick to laugh and to make us laugh. I share your loss and I know that this jewel will be missed.

My condolences go out to the entire family of DeeDaw as i knew her. DeeDaw was such a loveing, careing kinda person she had a heart the size of this earth she lived on and touched so many lifes. She was a sweet heart in deed everyone loved her, I pray for you all during this time of grief may God help you to understand and make you strong for each other. God Bless

I will miss Aunt Boots very much. I have not had the opportunity to see her in years, but I still remember the room with the toys, especially the jack in a box, and the tree house in the backyard. We love you very much, and send condolences to the rest of the family.

We will miss Bootsie but know she is gone home to be with the Lord and her heavenly gone before her. She was a one of a kind, Loved my a great many having spent her life teaching those that would hear the word of the Lord and those that really didn't want to hear, but she had her own way of praying that you would come to hear.If ever you needed friend or a word from the Lord, she was who you called. She seemed to have a direct line to the Lord or you thought so. Rest now, you have run you race and the Lord is waiting for you.
