Boyce was born October 24, 1929 in a rural area just outside Atlanta, Georgia to Emma Lou Hayes Jones, whom he adored, and William Lester Jones. Boyce attended Smith High School in Atlanta, after which he enlisted in the United States Army and served in The Korean War.
After being discharged from the Army, he moved to Houston to attend The University of Houston, eventually graduating with an accounting degree. After graduation, he became a Certified Public Accountant and initially worked for Arthur Young & Co., and later was a partner in Fox & Co. Other than his time with Arthur Young and Fox, he maintained a tax accounting practice, at times as a solo and at times with other members in a small firm, until 2017. During his practice, he developed many long and lasting relationships with clients as both a tax and business advisor. One of the clients he worked with the most was Jerald Witten, who remained one of his closest friends throughout his life.
In 1954, Boyce married Earline Van Loon. Their only child, Randy, was born in 1958. They lived in the Robindell and Walnut Bend subdivisions in Houston.
In 1982, Boyce married Frances Johnston Seward and they lived together in Houston or the Houston area, including some great years on Galveston Bay in Shoreacres, for 35 years. While in Houston, they were faithful members of Bethel Church of Houston. Frances and Boyce were also blessed with two of the best dogs ever, whom they doted on mercilessly, Pooh Bear and then Dixie.
In 2017, Frances and Boyce moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, and then to Loveland in 2019, to be nearer Frances’ children. Frances passed away in November 2020.
Boyce was predeceased by his mother and father, his wife Frances, his brother Robert and his sister Brenda Marie.
He is survived by his son Randy Jones, daughter in law Darla Jones and granddaughter Katie Jones; sisters Ann Kelly, Sharon Ginn and Joyce Price, and brother Leon Jones; numerous nieces and nephews; Frances’ children Sarah Higgins, Ralph Seward, Elisabeth Olson, Robert Seward and Catherine Reed; twenty grandchildren through Frances; nineteen great-grandchildren through Frances; and his ex-wife, Earline Jones.
