Brian William Locher passed away the 17th of March 2015 after his brave four-year battle with cancer. Brian was born the 26th of April 2005 in Houston, Texas. He attended Grace School beginning in Pre-Kindergarten, and before that The Parish School. Brian’s time on earth is measured not by years but by the strength and grace by which he lived. He was truly a sweet, kind, generous, and compassionate boy, who often gave to and thought of others even when he was suffering. He was handsome, witty, and intelligent. His strength, smile, zest for life, and faith in God inspired many. Brian was our Hero. Minutes before he passed, Brian said he was going to talk to God, and he is with Him now.
Brian played a season of baseball, which was his favorite sport, and two seasons of basketball. He enjoyed Cub Scouts. Twice he was top popcorn seller in his Pack. Brian enjoyed simple things in his complicated life: “lovey time” with his mother, watching Scooby Doo with his father, playing kickball with his sister, movies, family game nights, and most of all being with his friends. He also loved electronics. No one could beat him at Mario, he mastered Club Penguin, and most recently he was becoming a Minecraft expert. Brian’s treatment took him to New York City, where he got to see the Statue of Liberty and go to the top of the Empire State Building, to Michigan during an epic snowfall, and to Fort Worth and Austin, Texas. His “Make-a-Wish” trip was to Disney World in Florida where he and his family had a fun week.
The family wishes to thank the Grace School and Kinkaid School communities, Chapelwood United Methodist Church, Andrews Kurth, the many doctors, nurses, and others at Texas Children’s Hospital who cared for Brian, and the many prayer warriors for their unwavering support. Brian is survived by those he loved so dearly, and who loved him: his parents, Valerie Vance Locher and William Scott Locher; sister, Lauren Ruth Locher; grandparents, Lynn and Ellis Locher, Linda Vance, and John and Louise Vance; and aunt, Linda Stites; and cousins, Justin Smith and Lindsay Stites; uncle, John Vance and aunt, Samantha Vance; and cousins, Evan and Preston Vance; and uncle, David Vance and aunt, Jessica Vance; and cousins Elijah and Joshua Vance.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with Brian’s family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Monday, the 23rd of March in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive, in Houston. The memorial service will be conducted at four o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 24th of March at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay, in Houston, with a reception to follow in Fellowship Hall. Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment. Brian adored Grace School and the time he spent there. In lieu of the customary remembrances, donations may be made to Grace School, 10219 Ella Lee Ln., Houston, Texas 77042, for a memorial fund to be established in Brian Locher’s honor.
