

Brian enjoyed church functions, swimming, sports, camping, playing in the school band. He attended McDonogh #15 Elementary School, McMain High School, Southern University (Baton Rouge, LA) and Tulane University.
Brian was a former member Bar Association (N. O., LA) and was a member of Church of Christ since 1989, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, President, Dean of Pledges-Tulane University, 1994, Black Association of Lawyers of Tomorrow, Tulane Inter-fraternity Council, Rho Iota Chapter’s Community Service Chairman.
Brian’s favorite activities consisted of Organizing the College Ministry for the Elysian Fields Church of Christ (circa 1995) and serving on the Youth Committee. He was active in the Singles Ministries, Fifth Ward Church of Christ in Houston, Texas; McMain High varsity football and tennis teams, concert band and orchestra. He also loved to read and travel.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Elysian Fields (N.O., LA), Fifth Ward (Houston, TX) and Bammel Church of Christ (Houston, TX), all family and friends who have helped us on our journey.
Brian was preceded in death by Arthur Simmons, father; Johnathan and Thelma Simmons, paternal grandparents and Aristel and Nita Travis, maternal grandparents. He is survived by his mother, Mary Carolyn Travis Simmons; sibling, Stacey Simmons Curtis; aunts, Brenda Simmons and Aldrema Smith and husband Cedric, Sr.; nephews, Bobby Kennedy Curtis, II and Arthur Aristel Curtis and many other family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 2pm-4pm at Elysian Fields Church of Christ, 4636 Elysian Fields Ave., New Orleans, Louisiana, 70122. In honor of Brian "Red" Simmons, those attending the memorial service are asked to wear something red if possible.
