
Buford D. Purvis (aka “Mickey”) of Spring, Texas, passed away May 15, 2016 at the age of 93. He was born July 26, 1922 to Simon and Alma Purvis in Shreveport, LA. He moved to Houston when he was 5 years old always saying he “got to Houston as quick as he could”. Buford joined the Marines in 1942 and served on Saipan in World War II. He was married to his first wife, Elma, for over 53 years – living in the same house in Houston all of those years.
He was married to his 2nd wife, Janet, in 1997 until his death. Buford was proud to have worked for St. Luke’s Hospital downtown as a Stationery Engineer for many years before his retirement. He was a regular Renaissance Festival attendee – getting to know the participants by photographing or video taping and returning with photos and videos to share with them. He attended every year, every weekend (until the last couple of years). Buford was a caregiver, he loved gardening and growing his fruit trees. He always had candy to pass out to friends and family and all others he came across. He was a devout Christian and read his Bible daily.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his 1st wife (Elma); 4 brothers: Paul, Dayton, Simon, and Cyril; and one sister: Neveda Selcer.
Buford is survived by his wife of almost 19 years, Janet. Mickey did not have any biological children, but he claimed many as his own… Paul Holinsworth (Taru), Heather Masten(Bryan), David Holinsworth, Lisa Kramer (K.J.), Terrel Longwith (Annette), and Jose Zamora. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A service in his memory will be held at 2pm, Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Fwy, Houston, TX 77039. Entombment will follow the service. There will be visitation starting at 1pm on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Brookside Funeral Home.
