Cara Nina Newton

Cara "Nina" Newton, 69, of Houston, Texas, passed on November 01, 2021 at Eagles Trace in Houston. Nina, known by many as "Chief" was born on July 08, 1952 in Port Arthur, Texas. She was the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Franzetti) Newton. She is survived by her brother Joseph (Theresa). She is preceded in death by her brother Guy (Leslye). She attended Marion and St. Agnus high schools in Houston. She graduated from the University of St. Thomas in Houston with a BA in Biology and M.ED. She also attended the UT School of Public Health earning a Master of Public Health. She had a long career with the UT Health Science Center in Houston, working on head injury research. She was a parishioner of St. John Vianney Catholic Church where she had been a choir member. She was active in her community at Eagle's Trace playing with the Eagle's Trace Strummers, a ukulele group, and praying with the rosary group. Over the years one of her greatest joys was sharing her life with her dear beagles Carlo, Thomas, John Paul, Dime Box, Michael and Rafael. Visitation and Rosary will take place at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home on Nov. 18th beginning at 5 PM. A funeral Mass will take place on Nov. 19th at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Houston on Nov.19th at 10:30 AM. She will be missed by family and friends. Contributions may be made in her memory to St. Jude's Children's Fund.
