
Carl attended grade school in Alamo Heights in San Antonio where his father was a coach. The family moved from San Antonio to Ogden, Utah due to his father being in the Air Force.
Carl attended Northwood Prep school in New Jersey where he excelled in sports as a 14 year old Texan and adopted the name of Tex Menger. He was a counselor at a Vermont Camp before returning to Texas. Carl was an outstanding athlete in all sports.
After graduating from Paducah High School Carl attended Texas A&M where he received a Football Scholarship and was lettered as a Freshman Quarterback. Carl changed his sport to baseball after a knee injury and while playing with A&M baseball team went to the College World Series.
After graduating from Texas A&M in Animal Science (1953), Carl joined the Air Force as 2nd Lt., where he served for 2 years in Germany and Libya as head of gunnery school for the 36th fighter bomber wing and other squadron from Europe.
After leaving the Air Force, Carl farmed at Paducah from 1955-1960 and when the farm closed, he went to work for Triangle Conduit & Cable with his father. Carl eventually opened a business C. Menger Co with locations in New Orleans, Dallas and Houston. After closing his business in 2004, Carl went to work for his son from 2004 through 2015.
Carl was a member of the Rotary Houston Club and was highly responsible for the beginning of Lombardi Award (Lineman of the Nation) Carl was 1st chairman in 1971. He worked exclusively with Marie Lombardi to have this award strictly for Houston Rotary Club with proceeds going to Cancer Research. Carl was also involved with the Rotary Club of Lake Conroe on projects for charities such as Los Compadres Golf Classic. Carl also worked on the Injured Athletics’ Scholarship program.
As a Non denomination Christian, Carl was baptized Church of Christ in Paducah. Carl lived at Walden Lake Conroe for over 25 years. He was President of the Men’s Christian fellowship at Walden Community Church and enjoyed that as an outreach for the church.
Carl is proceeded in death by his parents; Carls Simone Menger Sr. and Dorothy (Dottie) Marek Menger, Step-father Kelly Payne and son Carl Menger III.
He leaves in memory his wife: Linda, son Marek Menger and wife Sherry, daughter Jeannine Devine and husband Frank, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson and other loved ones.
