

Carla Gaut, of Houston, TX was called home August 20, 2026, at the age of 92. She was born Oct. 15, 1933, in Irwin, PA, where she grew up. Carla graduated from Irwin High School and Chatham University, where she earned a BS degree in Chemistry.
She was married to Charles H. Gaut, also of Irwin, for 53 years, until his passing in 2008. Carla is survived by her brother Colin Norberg and wife Susan, son Charles Christopher Gaut and wife Donna, son Robert Gaut and wife Cynthia. She has four grandchildren, Richard Gaut and wife Megan, Christopher Gaut and wife Dolores, Carolyn Gaut Kraska and husband Jay, and Colin Gaut. There are 5 great grandchildren.
During her life, her husband’s career with the railroad necessitated more than a dozen moves, and Carla made great friends at every stop along the way. Carla, as her faith was important to her, became an ordained deacon of the Presbyterian Church, and she was also President of the Presbyterian Women’s Club. They retired to Florida and among her many activities there Carla became involved in Garden Club and was a National Flower Show Judge.
For the last 12 years she has been a resident of The Buckingham in Houston, TX. She continued her involvement in Garden Club, and she took advantage of an active social life, participating in Bridge, Mah Jong, and as the Caller for Bingo.
Her roles as wife and mother were most important to her. She was the glue that brought her immediate family together but additionally holding her extended family together. Everyone felt the love of her heart and the fun of her humor.
