Carleen Andrews

Juanita Carleen Andrews, 75, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Thursday, the 16th of July 2026, surrounded by the love of her family after a valiant fight with ALS. Carleen was born in Freeport, Texas, to Annie Pearl and Robert J. Hamner, the youngest of six children. She graduated from Milby High School in 1968 and on the 24th of April 1970, she married George D. Andrews, and together they shared more than 56 years of marriage, building a life centered on family, devotion, and love.

She was the proud and devoted mother to Lisa Andrews Alpe and her husband, Bruce D. Alpe; Amy Andrews Cone; and Gregory L. Andrews and his wife, Vanessa Lind Andrews. She was also a cherished grandmother to nine grandchildren: Andrew, Austin, and Alexandra Alpe; Olivia, Sophia, and Victoria Cone; and Madeleine, Claire, and Ellis Andrews.

Carleen was thoughtful, generous, and deeply loved by many. She had a caring spirit and a natural way of making those around her feel valued and remembered. Her kindness was reflected in the way she cared for her family, supported the people she loved, and gave generously of herself.

She was a wonderful cook and was known for always preparing far more food than anyone could possibly eat. For Carleen, cooking was another way of showing love, and no one ever left her table hungry.

Some of the family’s fondest memories were made at the Lake House, where Carleen loved bringing everyone together. It became a special gathering place where her family spent countless happy days and created memories they will cherish for years to come.

Carleen especially loved holidays, with Easter holding a special place in her heart. She made every celebration memorable and was always planning special, fun surprises for her grandchildren. Her joy came from watching their excitement and creating traditions that made each holiday feel magical.

Carleen had a green thumb and loved spending time in her garden, where she found joy in nurturing plants and watching them flourish. She was an avid photographer and could often be found along the sidelines, capturing the perfect shot of her grandchildren playing sports. She was also a passionate Houston sports fan and faithfully cheered for the Astros, Rockets, and Texans. Attending Game 5 of the 2017 World Series was one of her most treasured sports experiences—a thrilling and unforgettable night she loved reminiscing.

She loved game shows, and in 1978, she had the unforgettable experience of appearing as a contestant on The Price Is Right. It was a favorite story and a special memory that reflected her fun-loving spirit and willingness to embrace life’s adventures.

Carleen’s legacy of thoughtfulness, laughter, hospitality, and love will live on through her husband, children, grandchildren, extended family, and the many friends whose lives she touched.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Monday, the 20th of July, in the grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

The family will gather for a private interment at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston.

A Celebration of Carleen’s Life is to be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 21st of July, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons. Immediately following, all are invited to join the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
