He was born to the late Maria Santos Barragan Alarcon and Julio Sanchez on September 4, 1941 in Bogota, Colombia. He married Rosa Delia Cardenas in 1965 and they lived in Bogota before relocating first to New York City and then to Houston in 1979.
Carlos worked for the Houston Fire Department for 27 years before retiring in 2007.
Carlos had many interests, and excelled at them all; including cooking, dancing and bowling, but his true passion was being the patriarch of the Barragan family. He was a beloved and caring husband, kind, fun and sharing father, and doting grandfather.
Carlos is survived by his wife Rosa and five children, Sandra Pierce, Carlos Barragan, Jr., Edna Sanchez, Maritza Alonzo and Frank Barragan, all in Houston, and five grandchildren, Colin Barragan, Zachary Alonzo, Madison Barragan, Hamilton Pierce and Chloe Barragan, and his sister, Amanda Lopera.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 25 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 2140 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77098.
