

She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Joe Acosta, daughter and son-in-law Vivian and Eugene Thigpen, son and daughter-in-law Dennis and Cindy Acosta, three grandchildren: James White, Michelle White and Erin Thigpen, and three great grandchildren: Jaclyn, Madeleine and John White. She also is survived by her brother, Sam Lira, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carmen and Jose Lira, three sisters: Ruth Torres, Rosalie Gutierrez and Eva Pearce, and four brothers: Rudy Lira, Edward Lira, Joe Lira and Robert Lira.
Carmen grew up on the Lira family farm in Tarkington Prairie, Texas, graduating from Tarkington Prairie High School in 1944. She devoted her life to the Lord’s work. She was a member of Springcrest Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, where she served the Lord enthusiastically, teaching Scripture and opening the door of faith to all whom she touched.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, December 2, 2011, at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Fwy (Hwy 59 North), Houston, 77039. Funeral services and interment will be held on Saturday, December 3 at 2:00 p.m. at Brookside Chapel. Donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org, in lieu of flowers.
