Carol Anne (Lodico) Barrett, age 58, of Round Rock, Texas passed away peacefully at home on April 14. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Ron; children Jennifer and Jeff; parents Cosmo and Pat Lodico of Houston, Texas; brother Michael Lodico (Christine) of Houston; uncles and aunts Stephen and Barbara Steinhardt of Houston and Lewis and Sharon Lodico of Edinburg, Texas; grandson Carter Barrett of Abilene, Texas; and numerous loving cousins.
Carol took joy from many things in life. She was fortunate to be able to turn a life-long love of books into a career as a bookseller and manager at Barnes & Noble. While there she took pride not in her own accomplishments but in the growth and advancement of young women with whom she worked. Her happiest moments were when other women were able to graduate college or move into positions, whether at the bookstore or elsewhere, that allowed them to pursue their own passions in life.
Over the years Carol also developed a great love for the outdoors, whether walking along a beach or hiking through the mountains. She and her family took many trips to state and national parks to experience the wonders of our natural world. In 2014 she and her husband, Ron, completed a long time goal by hiking from the Irish Sea to the North Sea in northern England. In the past several years her favorite pastime was visiting and helping maintain the Padre Island National Seashore near Corpus Christi, Texas. She and Ron discovered the seashore late in life but it was love at first sight.
Carol was a devoted mother and relished watching her children grow into adulthood. As her own time was drawing to a close she took comfort in knowing that they were good and decent people who had found happiness in their own lives. Carol was also blessed to have been able to be "MoMo" to her grandson Carter for the past three years.
Carol was a kind and caring person who never let adversity take away the smile on her face or her love for her family and friends. She was taken too soon, but her memory will be with us always.
