Carol Jean Boberg, née Cook, born on May 18, 1935 in Flint, MI, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 23, 2021 surrounded by loved ones. She received a bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Michigan, married Thomas Cox Boberg on September 19, 1958, and devoted herself to creating a home filled with warmth and beauty where she raised their two daughters.
For over 50 years, she was an active member of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, a faithful volunteer for many different ministries including tutoring young children and supporting teachers at a local school, knitting prayer shawls, baking cookies for the Advent festival, ushering, and teaching Sunday school. She gathered with neighborhood friends for book club, sewing, and lunches (fondly referred to as Chat and Chew, which originated as Sit and Sew, but was renamed to resemble what was truly going on!). She cherished her lifelong friendships with her community at MDPC, Memorial Bend, and Exxon, where Tom worked for many years.
Carol and Tom were world travelers. Her stories included staying out all night on an Italian beach, venturing through Switzerland on a challenging walking tour, and encountering koalas, kangaroos, and beautiful birds in Australia and New Zealand.
Possibly her two greatest gifts were gardening and her skill with a needle and thread. She loved to sew. When her girls were growing up, her closest friends were her sewing friends. Her quilts are true works of art and reveal both her appreciation of beauty and her love for her family. She loved working in the garden. The backyard on Electra Dr. was particularly beautiful, filled with color, and a favorite place to end the day with friends and family.
She is predeceased by her mother, Marcella (Hill) Cook, her father, Lynn Henry Cook, stepmother, Florence (Harris) Cook, husband Thomas Cox Boberg, and siblings Kenneth Lynn Cook and Lynne Harris Cook.
She is survived by her daughter Leslie Caren Boberg, her daughter Lynne Ann Boberg Sutter and husband Herman Joseph Sutter, and her three beloved granddaughters, Lucia Martel Sutter, Isabel Michael Sutter, and Sophia Rosalynd Philomena Sutter, who will miss her constantly.
In memory, donations may be directed to Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church.
A Committal at Memorial Oaks Cemetery and Memorial Service at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021.
The service may be live-streamed at 11:00 am on the church’s social media page.
