Carol Peck Harper, fondly known as “Keca,” was called to Heaven on Thursday, the 21st of September 2023, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She left us peacefully at home, surrounded by her family and close friends. She was 74 years of age.
Born in Houston on the 30th of September 1948, to Carolyn and Northrop Peck of Houston, Carol grew up in her hometown where she graduated from the Kinkaid School. Carol attended and graduated from Texas Christian University, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
Following college graduation, Carol returned to Houston and became an avid volunteer for many organizations, including Junior League of Houston, River Oaks Garden Club, Houston SPCA and many others, while co-owning and operating a popular Native American jewelry store with one of her dearest friends.
In 1988, Carol married the love of her life, Thomas “Tommy” Harper III. Together, they enjoyed life to the fullest, especially traveling to New Orleans where they appreciated the food, music and local culture. Of course, her heart belonged to Lake McQueeney, where Carol and Tommy entertained and enjoyed time spent with family and friends.
Tommy came to the marriage with two sons, Thomas (“T”) and Will. As the boys would attest, Carol loved them as her own. For over 35 years, she mothered T and Will with pride and love for their own life pursuits. She was blessed with the gift of five beautiful and adoring grandchildren. T and Will’s love for Carol was beautifully shown during Carol’s illness; they were at her side and supporting their father.
Carol is survived by her adoring husband of 35 years, Tommy Harper. She was especially proud of her two stepsons: Thomas (“T”) Harper and his wife Taylor, along with their children, Tommy and Ferrell of Austin; Will Harper and Mary and their three children, Flora, Lucy and Penelope, also of Austin. She is also survived by her sister, Susan Massey and her husband Fred, and their children, Mark and his wife Kasey, and Owen and his wife Sofia, and their three children, Northrop, Miles and Ofelia Blake.
The Harper family would like to extend their gratitude to the nursing staff that lovingly provided care for Carol during her last months of life.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Thursday, the 19th of October, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The memorial service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 20th of October, in the Sanctuary of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road in Houston.
Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family and share remembrances of Carol during a reception in the nearby Fellowship Hall.
