Losing her mother at age 3 made Carol's life take many twists and turns, but made her one of the most complex, talented, hardworking, endearing, kind hearted, fiercely loyal people you could ever hope to meet.
Carol attended Schools in the Houston area, but returned to Gonzales for junior and senior high. Although she did not graduate, she did earn her GED and had a lifetime of continuous learning with classes in appliance repair, HVAC systems, and bookkeeping. She had a quick mind and a sharp wit that sustained her through various jobs, including sheetrocking and carpentry with her brothers and appliance repair with her sister Rose. Later she did apartment maintenance and office manager/ dispatcher at AgConsolidated where she was a favorite of her boss, as well as the farmers who bought their fuel there.
Carol married the love of her life, Craig Payne on May 17,1997. Although she never had children of her own, she was the "go To" for her siblings for childcare when she was available, therefore was an important constant in the lives of her many nieces and nephews who cherished her. Carol was fiercely loyal and loved her family, friends, and many pets she had throughout her lifetime.
Although she worked at very physicals demanding jobs, she was a gentle soul that loved getting Mani/Pedis, reading Harlequin novels, and helped many people and animals in any way she could. Carol loved family gatherings, drinking, playing games, watching football, eating out (especially Mexican food with good Margaritas), and watching television (where you would frequently hear her answer the Jeopardy questions). She will dearly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
