Our beloved Carolyn Faye Washington Carroll was born in Houston, Texas on July 13, 1948. She was the third of eleven children born to the late James E. Washington, Jr. and Maggie Carter Washington and was
raised in a loving home.
At an early age, Carolyn professed her faith in Christ at Greater Galilee Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Robert Miller Shepherd, Sr. Carolyn loved her church members and took pride in serving on the Greeters Committee and welcoming members with a friendly smile at the door. She remained an active and faithful member of Greater Galilee under the leadership of Pastor Mack A. Paul until her passing. Carolyn was a proud graduate of Kashmere High School, Class of 1967. After graduating high school, she continued her educational pursuits by attending Southwestern Business School and Houston Community College. Carolyn entered the workforce thereafter and achieved a long
and successful career at ConocoPhillips. She retired from ConocoPhillips after many years of hard work and dedication. After retiring, her work for the Lord continued when Carolyn began employment with Mt.
Vernon United Methodist Church where she served as church secretary for many years.
On December 30, 1968, Carolyn and James “Poochie” Carroll joined together in holy matrimony. They became the proud parents of two beautiful baby girls, Taji Lynette Jones and LaPietra Patrice Berry, who
were loved and cherished by all until their passing. James and Carolyn were blessed with 25 years of marriage until James’ passing. Carolyn was a rare and unique gem to all who were blessed to know her. She had a special way of showing her love and adoration for her close family and friends. Carolyn loved to shop and had an exquisite collection of hats, shoes, purses and dresses. She had a passion for baking and perfected her baking skills year after year by baking cakes for her loved ones on birthdays and special occasions. Carolyn also loved to enjoy the beauty of magnolia tree flowers. She would often pick magnolias at any chance she could get and use them to decorate her home. Just as the magnolia tree, Carolyn was elegant and classy, yet resilient and strong. She demonstrated an unwavering faith in Christ
and strength throughout her journey here with us.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, James Carroll; both daughters, Taji (Marcus) and LaPietra (William); her parents, Maggie and James Washington Jr.; and two sisters, Sandra and Eleanor.
