Carolyn Wilson Lewis, was born on July 1st in Houston, Texas, to the late Nelson and Eva Wilson. Though Houston was her lifelong home, her family roots ran deep in Louisiana, where much of her extended family resided. She was educated in the Houston Independent School District and earned her high school diploma there.
Throughout her life, Carolyn wore many hats and devoted herself to service. She worked for the City of Houston court system, in childcare, and even opened her heart and home to foster children. She pursued her love of beauty as an entrepreneur in the interior design field, and later fulfilled a meaningful role as a Case Worker, where she helped single mothers find the resources they needed to provide for their families.
From an early age, Carolyn gave her life to Christ and never wavered in her faith. She was called to pray for others and held a steadfast belief in the power of miracles. Carolyn faithfully served in the church, with Higher Expectations Community Church, under Pastor Bryant Lee, as her home church. She also faithfully served in Love Center Church under Pastor Jimmy Holley, Messiah Mission Fellowship Church under Pastor Jim Miller, and Lakewood Church under Pastor John Osteen. Throughout her life, she supported countless ministries, helping to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and uplift the lives of those around her.
Carolyn was a woman of strength, grace, and steadfast faith. She had a passion for fashion and interior design, and she loved shopping, reading, and surrounding herself with beauty. Yet her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends, whom she cherished deeply.
An avid reader, Carolyn built a personal library filled with books on faith, but her most treasured book was always the Holy Bible. She spent countless hours studying its pages and sharing the Word of God with anyone she met. Her prayers uplifted generations, and her testimony touched lives in ways that will not be forgotten.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Her legacy of love, prayer, and faith will live on through all who were blessed to know her. Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Lewis; her parents, Nelson and Eva Washington Wilson; her sister, Rose LaTour; her brothers, Nelson Wilson Jr., Donnie Wilson, Calvin Wilson, Conrad Wilson, Earvin Wilson; and her son, Quentin Smith Sr.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: sons, Steverson McHenry (Cassandra McHenry), Joseph Lewis, Jr. (Phomesia Lewis), James Lewis, and Lance Lewis; and daughters, Jerea Hymon (Velerian Hymon), Jennifer McHenry, Demetri Thomas (Ernest Thomas Sr.), and Olivia Lewis. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Jeremy McHenry (Tenielle McHenry), Jace Hymon, Quentin Smith Jr., Quency Smith, Quendric Smith, Ernest Thomas Jr., Elijah Thomas, A’Yanna Chevis, Tahjeira Lewis, Jorahja Lewis, Takaisia Espree (Gerald Espree), E’Nijah Thomas, Lar’Jhaun Young-Lewis, and A’niyjah Young-Lewis; and her beloved great-grandchildren: Da’Jour Espree, Demi Espree, Sky Smith, Sage Smith, Sax Smith, Landon Rogers, Logan Rogers, and one great-grandchild on the way, Nyla Lynn McHenry.
In addition, she is remembered with love by her godchild, Asia Grace Lindon-Dennis (Jonathon Dennis Sr.); her best friend and sister in Christ, Minister Wanda Sam; her devoted niece, Gwendolyn Lavergne, who lovingly traveled from out of state to help care for her; and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
