She was born in Houston, Texas, on May 21, 1943, to Clint David Barker and her beloved mother, Helen Mae, or “GG”. A dedicated mother and grandmother known as “Nanny”, she was arguably one of the best hostesses and cooks in Texas, and she never met a stick of butter that didn’t belong in her delicious dishes.
Carolyn retired from The Coca-Cola Company in 2016, following 36 years of loyal service as an EDI Coordinator. She was talented at math and took pride in her work and was often recognized as the top employee in her department.
In the 1990s, Carolyn rediscovered her love of blues music, and became an active member of the Houston Blues Society, where she cultivated many lifelong friendships and countless happy memories.
Her friends and family will cherish the memories of her feisty and fun-loving energy, her fiery red hair and nails, and her selfless spirt. We are all the beneficiaries of her tender generosity, her fierce loyalty, and her unconditional love. We will miss her profoundly.
Carolyn is survived by her loving children, Rhonda Garner and Louis Meek; grandchildren, Allison (Stephen) Collins, Alivia Garner, and Marley (Trace) Saylor; great-grandchildren Elliott Collins and Mila Saylor; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Sandy Barker.
Immediately following will be a reception for her family and friends, held at her home at 8010 Pavona Ridge Lane Houston, Texas 77040 until 5:30pm.
