Carolyn Jean Rock, 75, entered into rest on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones during her short battle of pancreatic cancer. She was born on January 31, 1943 in Montclair, NJ to parents Kenneth B. Glass and Jean Stringham Glass.
She grew up in Bayhead, New Jersey where she loved being barefoot on the beach but did not like the winter cold. She graduated from Point Pleasant High School in 1961 and fulfilled her dream of becoming a nurse by attending the Ann May School of Nursing in Neptune, NJ, graduating in 1964. She then went on to continue her dream of becoming a registered nurse with the prestigious Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX where she worked for over 30 years as an OR surgical scrub nurse at Scurlock Towers before retiring in 2002. She met her husband Joseph J. Rock, Jr. in New Jersey and married him in 1966 in Houston, TX. She was devoted to reading books all her life and was excited to get new books each week from the Houston Public Library.
She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Barbara Wallace. She is survived by her loving husband Joseph J. Rock, Jr. of 52 years; daughter Michelle Rock; son Michael Rock of Austin, Texas, leaving behind cherished memories; brothers Kenneth Glass, Jr. and wife Mary, of Bay Head, NJ, Richard Glass and wife Deborah, of Cooper City, FL, Russell Glass and wife Phyllis of Waretown, NJ, devoted brother and sister-in-law Dennis and Carol Rock of Plantersville, TX; a host nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends in various parts of the country that she truly loved dearly.
Her family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Elysian Hospice Home Care, the caregivers of No Place like Home, and her weekly caregiver of 3 years, Janae Roy, during her last days.
