Carroll Chuck Montgomery Gaines III

Carroll “Chuck” Montgomery Gaines III passed away peacefully on Sunday March 26, 2017 surrounded by his loved ones. Born a native Houstonian on August 31, 1950 to Carroll M. Gaines, Jr. and Ruth S. Gaines Langston; he is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 36 years Nancy Monk Gaines, devoted children Alexander Montgomery Gaines of Los Angeles, CA, Jennifer Elizabeth Gaines of Houston, TX and sister-in-law Patricia Courtois of San Diego, CA. Chuck had a multitude of loved ones connected to him through extended family and friends.

There was no greater love than that which Chuck bestowed upon his wife, son, daughter and the ones that he considered his family. His fortitude through his long and brave battle over the years came from the desire to see his son and daughter become the people they are today. There was an immense strength in that joy that empowered him. His happiness came from hunting & fishing, being on the water with family and his closest friends in Rockport, his many Labrador Retrievers over the years, being an original sci-fi fan, having a never-ending dedication to Astros Baseball and supporting Houston’s professional sports teams. He was an accomplished Senior IT Applications Analyst that was self-taught before degrees in Computer Science were formally established. He was recognized for his expertise, which gave him a long and successful career in that field for over 39 years until his retirement. Chuck will not merely be missed. His absence will be felt deeply by all that he touched in this life, and the legacy of his love will always remain with those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

Chuck’s memorial service will be held Sunday, April 9, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, located at 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079. A reception will follow immediately after the memorial service in the reception area at Memorial Oaks. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society and/or the National Heart Association.
