Born January 10, 1953 in New Orleans, La to Don and Jean Farrar, Cathy was raised in New Orleans and never lost her love for all things Southern. She attended Ursuline Academy, and graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in education. While at LSU, she was a member of Tri-Delta sorority where she made many lifelong friends.
Cathy moved to Houston in the late 1970s, where she began her family and nurtured an entrepreneurial spirit. While her children were young, she built Catherine Rebecca, a successful family business where she designed and manufactured a children's clothing line.
Always eager to be involved with friends and her community, Cathy was a member of the Junior League of North Harris County and Tri Delta Alumnae. A two time breast cancer survivor, she was a dedicated volunteer for the Stehlin Foundation for Cancer Research and more recently with MD Anderson.
Always at the forefront of Cathy’s life were her Catholic faith and her family. She was the ultimate encourager for her children, and was always their biggest cheerleader.
Cathy is preceded in death by her father, Donald G Farrar. She is survived by her mother, Jean M. Farrar, and her children Christopher, Casey, and Carey Helmrich. She is also survived by her sister, Lynn James and brothers, Tom and John Farrar, in addition to her grandchildren, Harrison, Hadley and Kiley Helmrich, and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial for Cathy will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Drive, Houston, TX 77024, with a reception to follow at the church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Forest Park Southwest Cemetery in Richmond, TX.
