

She was born in Newark, Delaware on the 5th of July 1929, to May Marion Keating and Herbert Lawerance Dozier who preceded her in death. Catherine attended the University of Maryland and Stetson University in Florida. She went on to become an elementary teacher at The Kinkaid School as well as Hunters Creek. Her passions were teaching, painting, travel, her family, and of course her cats.
Catherine was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband, Alexander J. Melancon Jr., brother, Herbert Dozier and sister, Mary Marion Dozier. She is survived by her brother, Byrd H. Dozier; her daughter, Denise and son-in-law, Stephen Finley, daughter Alexis Melancon Rogers; her grandchildren Elizabeth Skye Cannon and Alexander Grigg Cannon; her niece Theresa Dozier-Robinson, and Michelle Dozier.
The family would like to acknowledge the many people at Brookdale Tanglewood who assisted Catherine in her later years.
Mrs. Melancon’s family will receive friends beginning at half-past ten o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 12th of February 2016, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where the funeral service is to commence at eleven o’clock in the morning. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
The family will gather for a private committal service at Houston National Cemetery.
