Cecilia Theresa Sadoski Martin

Cecilia Sadoski Martin of Houston went to the Lord on April 26, 2018 at the age of 95. She was born in Bryan, Texas on December 16, 1922.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Stella Stetz, her husband of thirty-three years Raymond Sadoski, second husband William “Buddy” Martin, her brother Raymond Stetz, sister-in-law Della Stetz, granddaughter Michelle Christine Sadoski and step-grandson Darrell Chipman.

Cecilia is survived by her son Edward “Ed” Sadoski and wife Tina, granddaughter Holly Campagna and husband Nick and great-granddaughters Abriella and Amelia Campagna, all of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by her brother Alvin Stetz and wife Marie, a sister Regina Opersteny and husband Charles, and sister-in-law Betty Stetz, all of Bryan, Texas. Cecilia is also survived by step-daughter Pam Chipman and husband Gary, step-son Ronnie Martin and wife Brenda, and step-grandsons Jeff Martin and wife Wendy, Phillip Martin and wife Trish, step-granddaughters Jennifer Strich and husband Mike, Allison Walker and husband Bert, Elizabeth Braun and husband Tim, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cecilia was known to many in her family as Mimi. She exemplified strength, gentleness, holiness, and love of family and was always ready to help anyone in need. A great cook, she enjoyed preparing desserts for the holidays especially her apple and chocolate pies made from scratch. As matriarch of her family, she was one of the last of a generation growing up on a farm outside of Bryan without electricity and running water. Cecilia attended Leonard Road School, graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan, and worked at Texas A&M University for the Former Students Association. She was one of the “Greatest Generation” living through the Great Depression and World War II. Cecilia retired from Foley’s (Macy’s) after 31 years. She worked in the children’s department and trained many young buyers who later became store managers. At Foley’s she was known to many as “Mom.”

Cecilia loved her church and was an active member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church for 51 years. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Altar Guild, Catholic Daughters Court #1750, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary #2917, Knights of Columbus Seniors Club, Red Hat Ladies group and Thursday Club at St. Rose of Lima.

Visitation will be on Monday, May 7, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm with a Rosary Service beginning at 7:00 pm at Pat H. Foley Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with Father Jim Anderson officiating. There will be a reception following the service. Burial will take place at Memorial Oaks Cemetery at 1:30 pm.

Pallbearers are Dr. Steven Opersteny, Michael Opersteny, John Opersteny, Nick Campagna, Winn Andrus, Billy Sadoski, Richard Hanus, and Bert Walker.
