Celia Torres of Houston, Texas died Wednesday, March 13, 2019 in North Ridgeville, OH after a short illness. She was surrounded by her loving family. Celia was born in Cushing, OK on November 19, 1919, to Jose and Francisca Ontiveros. Celia’s first marriage was to Blas Varela, she was widowed with two children. After being widowed several years she met Juan Torres who had seven children of his own, Celia and Juan married. Together, they had three children. They raised a total of 12 children and helped raise numerous grandchildren. She was a loving housewife and mother. Celia’s door was always open to those who needed help. Celia kept busy in various volunteer positions at her church Our Lady of Sorrows as Secretary for Legion of Mary, Alter Society, Religious Education for First Communion candidates, and Eucharistic Minister. She also received a Presidential Recognition for her community volunteer work at the Wesley Senior Center, Red Cross, hospital admissions and translator, and participated in a Senior Women’s Balet Folklorico dance group, called “Las Adelita’s”. Our Dad Juan Torres was very proud of her dance talent. Celia earned her GED in 1977, at the age of 58 years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Blas Varela and her second husband Juan Torres, her son Juanio Torres, her grandchildren Gloria Jean Gallegos, Maria Guadalupe Delacruz, Johnny “Boo” Torres, Jennifer Susan Kubincanek, baby Ashley Kubincanek and baby Jimmy Torres. Celia was survived by, her children Rosa Rodriguez, Lupe Torres, Tony Torres, Pete Torres, Joe Torres, Paul Torres, Valentine Varela, Madeline Garcia, Jesse Torres, Celia Kubincanek, Rachel Carvajal, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
