Charles F. Dill

Charles Franklin Dill, 85, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019 after a brief illness. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, May 17, 2019 at 12:00 pm at Grace Presbyterian Church in Houston TX.

Charles was born on January 26, 1934, in Chattanooga TN to Felix Franklin Dill and Mary Bryant Dill. Charles grew up in the Brainerd neighborhood and attended McCallie Boys College Prep School where he was on the varsity golf and soccer teams. Upon graduation from McCallie, Charles attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN to study Engineering. While attending Vanderbilt, he became a member of the Beta Pi Chapter of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity in 1953 as well as the Vanderbilt Naval ROTC.

In 1955, he was drafted into the US Navy where he served with the 7th fleet in the Mediterranean. Upon completion of his military service, Charles completed his education at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga and graduated in 1960.

After an 18-month courtship, he married Peggy Yarbrough on April 2, 1959 and they began their life together. After graduation, Charles and Peggy set their sights on a new adventure and moved to Houston TX. Charles and Peggy enjoyed travelling across the globe before settling down to start a family in 1967.

Charles worked as a registered professional mechanical engineer for Armco Steel for many years before finally branching out to start his own engineering practice. Charles was able to execute a wide variety of exciting and innovating projects all over the world and even participated in the design of a part for the NASA Space Shuttle Program.

His interests included spending time with family (especially his grandchildren), travelling, photography and golf. He devoted much of his spare time creating comprehensive photo albums of his travel experiences as well as creating photo albums of his children and grandchildren. He was also very interested in genealogy and incorporated family trees and stories into his family photo albums.

Charles is survived by his wife of 60 years, Peggy Yarbrough Dill; daughter, Carey Dill Dow and her husband Darren Dow; daughter, Mary Susan Dill Patterson and her husband Aaron Patterson; grandchildren, Michael Douglas Dow, Lyndsay Elizabeth Dow, Allison Bryant Dow, Emma Grace Patterson and Davis Charles Patterson.
