Born May 13, 1953, to Charles Wells Donovan, Sr., and Ethel Estelle Renner in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Pasadena High School, Pasadena, Texas, in 1972. Before graduating, he earned letters in Track and Choir. He would later join the United States Marine Corps in 1972 and served until 1983.
He is survived by his sister, Kathy Thomas, and his adopted sister, Jana Godwin. He is also survived by Patricia Ann Donovan, to whom he was married for 51 years. They had two sons, Charles David Donovan, married to Kathrin Karin Donovan from Germany, and Jesse LeRoy Donovan. He added to the family by adopting, by the heart, sons Wayne Evans, married to Hazel Bishop Evans and Dannie Marx, married to Cassandra Marx, and daughters Robin Lowe, married to Boone Lowe, and Kimberly Farmer. Their four grandchildren are Jeremy Charles Donovan, 22, Amy Maria Donovan, 20, Rebecca Zappone, 29, and Jessica Lowe, 26.
His fondest childhood memories include spending time on his uncle's, Ralph Donovan, shrimp boat. He was also well known for doting over his wife and hearing her giggle and enjoying a house full of family. One of his proudest moments as a father was to see the birth of his grandchildren.
His hobbies included Model Railroading and music, known to be a talented whistler, before lung illness took that talent from him. From science fiction to old literature, all things Irish, to building and servicing cars, and even farming, he carried a wide variety of interests, and an intense pride for the members of the United States Military. One of his favorite poems and prayers included the Serenity Prayer.
Service to others, and opening his home and heart to them was a joy to him. Though a man of private faith, he loved Jesus and tried to show that to all who came through his door.
