Hi my name is Gordon
I met Charles (whom I called "Mr. G" ) at work, which he and I worked as security guards at the Exxon Bldg in downtown Houston (800 Bell Street) in 1991. We were immediately best friends, at least he was my best friend. I was new to Houston from out of the Military. He told me about his days in the Army in Vietnam, how he had kids over there and had moved the family to San Diego. I did meet his son who moved to Houston for a short time, but later returned to California. 

During that time he lived on a street called Cosby off of Calhoun. Whom he had neighbors who loved him, next door to him was the Boudain Man and a few doors down was his good friend Albert. Mr. G's love was his dogs (Chis and Doc) a chocolate retriever and a white spotted hunting dog. His second love was dancing, he and I would sometimes go to neighborhood bars around the city and have drinks and shoot pool.

20 years ago I moved away from Houston to Canada, initially we kept in touch but ended up losing contact. 

One story before I end, I almost became homeless at one point. One day while I was by his house, I expressed to Mr. G how I wanted to start my own business. He disappeared out doors for 20 minutes and I heard him say, "Hey Gordon" Get your ass out here and help me make these signs. He and I painted signs which said "24/7 Appliance Repair Call 713-777-7272." 

From that point on, I thrived just knowing I had only one friend like that in the whole world. Not to mention he put this huge sign on this big tree in his front yard. Looking back it was an eye sore, not to mention Mr. G's passion was taking care of his lawn. But if he was your friend it was nothing he would do.

R.I.P Mr. G, you made me the man I am and hope to become.
