Born in Trinity, Texas in 1952, Charlie spent most of his life in Louisiana, where he built a life defined by service, loyalty, and deep love for those around him. A dedicated police officer, he carried his duty with quiet strength and integrity, earning the respect of colleagues and the community alike. He retired from the Lafayette Police Department in 2006 with the rank of Lieutenant.
Charlie had a spirit that thrived on the open road. There was little he loved more than riding his motorcycle alongside close friends, feeling the freedom of the wind and the bond of brotherhood with his club, Reguladores LEMC. He was also a devoted volunteer at Festival International from the very first years of the event.
As the years went on, his greatest joy shifted from the road to the home, where he cherished time spent with family. Nothing brought him more happiness than being with his beloved grandson, Rhett Charles Johnson, who gave him the nickname “Pop-Pop.”
He is survived by his son, Charles Seth Johnson, and daughter Rae Johnson.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Bobbie Jean, as well as his younger sister, Pam.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10am on Saturday, May 2 at Indian Bayou Community Church – 1029 LA-700, Rayne, LA 70578
