

Charlsia “Char” Brown-Burns, born on the 12th of February 1932, passed away peacefully on Monday, the 19th of September 2011. A loving and caring wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, friend and companion, she will be missed by many who loved her dearly. Char was born in Paris, Texas, resided in California early in her life and made Houston her home for over sixty years as a devoted wife and homemaker.
Char was preceded in death by her parents, the late Ruby Smith Reaves and William Callahan; and her beloved husband of twenty-five years, Samuel Rayford Brown. She is survived by her wonderful, loving and caring husband, John “Jack” Thomas Burns; her children, Janet Elaine Leanhart and her husband Garry and Deborah Keener Brown and her husband Russell; her step-son, Jeremy Burns; her four grandchildren, Trey Gore and his wife Jill, Samantha Gore, Robert Keener and his fiancé Emily Wiles and John Keener; her great grandchild, Amelia Elaine Gore; her brother, Paul Callahan; her brother-in-law, Jerry Burns and his wife Helen and her special friends, Charlie and Charlotte Gaither, Bob and Lynn Keener, Dovie Murray and Jo Roberts.
The family wishes to send special thanks to Joseph S. Galati, M.D., the excellent staff of Methodist Hospital, Ina Martinez and Maria Molina for the wonderful care she received.
A funeral service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 24th of September, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where the Rev. Mike Tyson, Pastor of St. John’s United Methodist Church, is to officiate.
The interment service is to immediately follow, via an escorted cortege, at Woodlawn Garden of Memories in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that contributions honoring Char be directed to The Methodist Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation, c/o The Methodist Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 4384, Houston, TX 77210-4384; or the charity of one’s choice.
