Cheryl Ann brightened the world on July 9, 1951, born to Haroldteen Shackleford and Emanuel Herron. She proudly graduated fourth in her class from Como High School in 1969. After receiving several academic scholarships, Cheryl went on to study at Texas Christian University—earning a bachelor’s degree in computer science in 1974.
Shortly after high school, Cheryl met James Williams—the love of her life, with whom she shared a birthday. In 1970 they married and enjoyed 44 wonderful years together. During that loving union, they joyfully welcomed two children.
She loved moments with family during holidays and vacations. Through road trips, flights, and cruises, her travel adventures spanned 45 U.S. states—with Hawaii as her favorite—plus two U.S. territories and six countries, including memorable moments in South America.
Cheryl celebrated a remarkable 30-year career as a computer programmer and systems analyst in the energy and medical sectors. She loved her work and often reflected saying, “Going to work every day was like playing video games.”
Ironically, the last 10 years of her life were filled with the same joyful spirit, as she happily pursued and excelled at video games, just as she did in every other part of her life.
She was preceded in death by her father, Emanuel Herron; mother, Haroldteen Proctor; husband, James Williams Sr.; and brother, Nathaniel Turner.
Cheryl leaves behind two children: Dee Dee (Keir) and James Jr. (Angel); three grandchildren: Alexa, Keir II, and Timothy; and one bonus grandchild: Renesmee.
She is also survived by bonus children: James, Yolanda, Melanie, Michael and Kentray; two brothers: Gerald and Lee; five sisters: Ethel, Edwina, Parlee, Jewelnita and Kathy; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, fellow gamers and all of whom celebrate her vibrant spirit and lasting legacy.
