Chester Ray Davis, better known as Davis, Dad, Pop-Pop, Uncle Chester and/or Coach, depending how your paths may have crossed, went to be with the Lord on September 30, 2019. He was born on July 23, 1935 in Nacogdoches, Texas to parents George Hamilton Davis and Lola Collins Davis Beale. Chester was preceded in death by his parents and youngest daughter Amie Lynn Davis. He is survived by his five children, (son) Darrell Davis, (daughter) Karen Yannazzo and husband Joseph Yannazzo, (daughter) Christy Carter and husband Wade Carter, (daughter) Jamie Williams and husband Tim Williams, (son) Jeff Davis and wife Christina Davis; 11 grandchildren, Kim Brewster, Veronica Davis, Kacey Carter, Kyndall Carter, Allyson Carter, Andrew Carter, Saylor Davis, Chesney Davis, Jalynn Williams, Beckett Davis and Kennedy Williams; great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Thanks to his enormous extended family and friends, he was constantly surrounded with love.

Chester was very proud of the two years he spent serving our country in the US Army, stationed in Germany driving the Battery Commander. He met his wife of 44 years, Joann Judge Davis, the love of his life, while working for the US Postal Service. He would retire from the US Postal Service in 1990 after working 30 years and 10 months. He always made sure no one left out the 10 months. Although he was retired, he never stopped helping his family at the day care, making bus runs, cooking his famous fried chicken, and taking the kids for ice cream. He was an amazing maintenance man that constantly worked on his “honey-do” list. He spent most of his time after retirement being the best Pop-Pop ever, making sure he was present at all of his grandchildren’s events. He was their best side-line coach and team cheerleader that told the best jokes. Pop-Pop loved to travel with Grandmom, but most importantly he loved to travel to watch his kids and grandkids do what they loved to do. Chester had a huge heart and only knew how to give. He would do anything for anyone and never asked for anything in return. He never met a stranger and always made time for others, especially when they wanted to talk about baseball. Chester had a variety of passions in life including song writing, which we would find all over the house written on napkins, paper plates, or whatever else he could find. He was a creative inventor and loved to have projects going from framing a house, building bird feeders, to gardening. His latest projects included building custom swings for his family. He spent his final days doing all of these things that he loved!

This was one of the last things he wrote that we found on his yellow notepad: “I don’t know when God will call me home, I just know he has a place for me”
