

Clyde Jess Harper, aka ‘CJ’ a beloved resident of Houston, TX peacefully departed this life on June 15th, 2025, at the age of 77. Clyde Jess Harper dedicated his entire career to the military and law enforcement service. CJ was a Chief Warrant Officer in the United States Army as an Army Special Forces Airborne Ranger. His decorations include the Combat Infantry Badge, Senior Parachutist Bade, Republic of Vietnam Jump Wings and Army Infantry Cord. Mr. Harper’s Medals included the Bronze Star, Air Medal, Army Commendation, Armed Expeditionary, Army Good Conduct, National Defense, Army Achievement, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Foreign Decoration, Republic of Vietnam Campaign, NCO Professional Development, Army Service, Overseas Service, Armed Forces Reserves, NATO, NATO Kosovo, United Nations, and Personal Achievement. CJ’s Army Unit Awards included the Military Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Army Presidential Unit Citation. CJ also was instrumental in International Special Operations in El Salvador, Bosnia/Herzegovina, Skopje, Macedonia. In addition to his Military career, CJ retired from the rank of Captain with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office in 1998, having started in 1973. CJ was one of the original founders of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad Unit. During his tenure, CJ graduated from the FBI National Academy Quantico Virgina class 143rd in 1985. CJ worked with the Jersey Village Police Department from 1999 to 2014 and then was elected to the Jersey Village City Council in 2015. CJ was also a Member of the United States Secret Service Houston Area Fraud Task Force. As a man of deep faith CJ was an elected Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus at St. Maximilian Kolbe and District Deputy of 5 Parish Councils.
Born on October 28th, 1947, to Walter Denzil Harper Jr. and Mary Shaw Harper of Houston, TX. CJ was a man of God, Family and Country and dedicated his life to selfless service of his Family, Country, and Community. As a devoted Husband, Father, and Grandfather. CJ is preceded in death by his Parents and Son, Patrick Shawn Harper, Sr. CJ is survived by his loving wife Mary Jo Harper, brother Walter Harper III, children Angela Schubot, twins Brian and Brent Harper, Dominique and Desiree Harper, Tia McIntyre, grandchildren Patrick Shawn Harper, Jr., Samuel Harper, Roland Harper, Renee and Triston Schubot, Miabella McIntrye, Tanner Szilagy, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends Jim Wyatt and Dr. Rob Parrish.
