

Colin adored learning, education, and linguistics. In addition to English, Colin was fluent in German, Polish, and French. In 2016, he graduated with honors from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Arts in German. In 2021, Colin graduated with a Masters of Arts in German from the University of California at Irvine. He returned to Houston and ultimately decided to seek an additional degree. In 2024 Colin graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Houston. Colin was deeply committed to intellectual growth and loved being a student. While continuing his educational pursuits, Colin lived in Angers, France, where he was eager to develop his French. More recently, he lived in Leipzig, Germany, and studied at the University of Leipzig while seeking his second Bachelor's degree. Colin loved immersing himself in other cultures. Colin loved to travel, with a particular affinity for spending time in France, Germany, and Poland. Colin shared a love of French culture with his mother and sister, and they traveled to France together multiple times.
During his undergraduate studies, Colin worked as a German tutor at the University of Houston, helping his peers gain proficiency in the language and sharing his passion for German culture. Colin immensely enjoyed his time at the University of Houston, where he strongly connected with the faculty and fellow students. Colin especially valued the mentorship he received from the professors in the German Studies department, who played a key role in nurturing his academic and personal growth. This experience helped Colin discover his love of not only learning languages, but also teaching others.
Colin found great joy in teaching. He loved teaching German to undergraduate students at the University of California, Irvine, and relished seeing beginner students progress to advanced to communicate confidently in the language. His students admired and praised him, many of whom wrote heartfelt letters expressing their gratitude for his dedication and the impact his classes had on them. More recently, Colin taught English Language Arts at a middle school in the Houston area.
Colin loved to read. He enjoyed discussing literature, languages, and the complexities of human experience. His dry, dark sense of humor made him a joy to be around, and his generosity, kindness, and intelligence left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Colin consistently sought a spiritual connection. Exploring Buddhist traditions and attending Polish Mass at Our Lady of Czestochowa in Houston.
Throughout his life, Colin faced challenges with depression and anxiety, but he was always open about these struggles. He was equally candid about his journey with recovery from alcoholism, a path he began more than a decade ago. Colin was actively involved with Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), and his connection to the program was an essential part of his life.
Colin is survived by his parents, David and Barbara Clark; his sister, Elizabeth Clark; his soon-to-be brother-in-law, Brady Fish; his fur nephew and niece, Atticus and Camille; and fur brother, Aubert. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents, CD and Margret Clark. Within Colin’s chosen family, he is survived by Jonathon, Nathan, and Tanya, who all hold prominent roles in Colin’s life.
Colin was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Francis and Marjory Flannery, his uncle, David Flannery, and his fur nephew, Heyden. Loy was a prominent member of Colin’s chosen family, and his passing in 2019 was a substantial loss for Colin.
A Mass of Christian Burial is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 17th of January, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception at a venue to be announced during the services.
