Curtis served in World War II in the United States Coast Guard until 1945. After service he went to work at Parker Brothers Concrete and eventually retired with them. He was a member of Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years.
Curtis was preceded in death by his wife Susie Grabow, sister Nelda Grabow, and brother Raymond Grabow. Surviving him are his sisters Martha Grabow, Robbie Grabow Wollard and Marie Ann Grabow Pittman. He also leaves behind two nephews, Clifford Fisher and Carl Pittman, Jr. and two nieces, Carol Kidder and Ann Menow.
