She was born on June 8, 1949, in Abbeville, Louisiana, and was raised in the nearby village of Leroy, Louisiana. Upon her graduation from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel High School in 1967, Cindy attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Medical Records. She served as Director of Medical Records at Cal-Cam Hospital in Sulphur, Louisiana, until moving to Sugar Land, Texas, in 1992.
Cindy devoted herself to her family, her faith, and her community. In Sulphur, she actively supported her children’s schools and parish life. Her daughters Beth, Julie, and Loren attended Our Lady’s School, where Cindy helped organize fundraisers ranging from bingo nights to parish festivals. At Immaculate Conception Parish, she served with the Catholic Daughters and worked alongside her husband, John, as a Marriage Encounter counselor. Her energy and enthusiasm were felt everywhere she served.
She also supported her daughters’ many activities, especially their sports. Cindy rarely missed a game and could often be heard cheering from the stands. She helped organize fundraisers for their teams and enthusiastically supported Beth’s love of theater throughout the Sulphur and Lake Charles area.
In 1992, John and Cindy relocated their family to Sugar Land, Texas, for John’s position at Flour Daniel. At St. Laurence Catholic Church, Cindy quickly became a dedicated parish leader. She remained active in the Catholic Daughters, Court 2402, and served as Regent for two years. With her experience in medical records, Cindy later became the parish librarian, helping revitalize the library and renew its importance as a resource for parishioners. Her devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Divine Mercy led her to spend many hours in adoration, rosary groups, and retreats.
Cindy continued supporting Catholic education through her son Steve’s school years, devoting her time to volunteer roles at St. Laurence Catholic School and leadership roles in the Mother’s Club at St. Thomas High School. Her spirit of service also extended into the scouting community. Cindy served as a den leader for Pack 1828, a committee member for Troop 441, and a religious emblem counselor in the Tomahawk District. She guided many scouts in earning their religious emblems and supported their journey toward the rank of Eagle Scout. Her creativity and dedication earned her numerous volunteer awards.
Cindy’s greatest joy, however, was her grandchildren. She spoke often of Allison, James, Nolan, Lyla, Marcus, and her beloved grandson Steven Gabriel Nelson. She cherished every moment spent with them: babysitting, celebrating birthdays, reading stories, and gathering for family occasions. Each grandchild held a special place in her heart.
She also treasured time with her extended family, including lively sports discussions with her son-in-law Ryan and warm conversations with her daughter-in-law Amanda.
Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Reule and Juliette Landry; her in-laws, Marion and Hattie Cummings; her sister, Aureen Stelly; her sister-in-law, Kathleen Trahan; her grandson, Steven Gabriel Nelson; and her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Cummings.
She is survived by her husband, John Wayne Cummings; her daughters, Juliet (Ryan) Manriquez and Loren Bridget Cummings; her son, Steven Landry (Amanda) Cummings; her brother, Carey (Carol Jean) Landry; her brothers-in-law, Brian Cummings, Donald (Kay) Cummings, and Allen Trahan; her grandchildren Allison Manriquez, James Manriquez, Nolan Cummings, Lyla Cummings, and Marcus Stanley; as well as many close relatives in her extended family.
The family thanks Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital and the many friends who showed care and compassion to Cindy and her family in her final days.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2026, at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 3100 Sweetwater Blvd., Sugar Land, Texas. Friends and family are invited to attend the prayer of the Holy Rosary at 9:30 a.m. prior to the Funeral Mass. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
An additional family gathering will take place afterward at the home of John and Cindy Cummings in Missouri City.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cindy’s honor to St. Laurence Social Concerns Ministry.
