Cynthia Cherrel Austin was the youngest of six children born to Sol and Etta Mae Austin on October 2, 1953 in Houston, Texas.
Cynthia was baptized in 1962 at Green Meadow Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. Emmett A. Pinson. Cynthia loved her church and she was a lifelong very active tithing member of Green Meadow Missionary Baptist Church from childhood to her adulthood. Cynthia loved her church and her fellow Christian church members. She served faithfully in many capacities at Green Meadow; Youth Choir, Youth Matron, Adult Choir, Mission Workshop Registrar, Head Youth Matron and Assistant Financial Secretary.
Cynthia graduated from Prairie View A&M University in May 1975.
On June 21, 1975 Cynthia married Charles Arthur Frazier and to this union two sons were born; Charles Arthur II on August 25, 1976 and Nicholas Sol on October 3, 1982. Cynthia’s husband Charles died unexpectedly at the age of 34 on August 21, 1988. Charles and Cynthia had been married for 13 years. Cynthia valiantly continued, then as a widow, to work and take care of herself and her two sons.
Cynthia began her career with Exxon Company USA in 1978 as a Customer Billing Office Assistant in the Accounting Department located at the Downstream Accounting Center which was called Brookhollow Campus. In 1982, she moved to the Accounting Services organization as a Staff Operations Accountant and remained there until January 1990. In January 1990, Cynthia was transferred to Exxon Chemicals Americas which later became ExxonMobil Chemicals Company. During her time at ExxonMobil Chemicals, she worked in Controllers, Global Customer Service and Supply as Oxo & Acids Export Replenisher.
Cynthia loved her job and on December 31,2015, after 37 years Cynthia retired as a Subject Matter Expert in Bulk Liquids, Supply Chain and GEMSII Projects from ExxonMobil Chemicals Co.
In 2019 Cynthia was diagnosed with Amnestic MCI, Early-Stage Alzheimer’s.
On February 22, 2022 Cynthia became a resident of the Brookdale Champions Clare Bridge Memory Care Unit where she remained until January 2024. January 2024, she became a resident of Sycamore Creek Ranch Memory Care Center. Cynthia enjoyed talking to the staff, the caregivers and other residents. Cynthia shared information with them about her family and, of course, about her time at ExxonMobil and her travels.
Cynthia is preceded in death by her parents Sol and Etta Mae, her husband Charles, her brothers; Ronnie, Saul and Hise Austin.
She leaves to mourn her passing, Her sons; Charles II and Nicholas Sol (DeKeita). two sisters; Jacquelyn Spears and Wanda Clavelle, her sister-in-love; Linda Austin and her very special nieces, Lisa Austin & Sonji Austin-Walker and many more nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends.
A visitation for Cynthia will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Green Meadow MBC, 777 Green Meadow Ln, Houston, TX 77091. A funeral service will immediately follow from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A committal will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Paradise Cemetery North, 10401 W Montgomery Rd, Houston, TX 77088.
