

Mr. Marvel was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on June 11, 1920. He was raised in Tabor, Iowa by his adopted parents. Dale left home to join the Navy after America entered World War II. He married Elsie, his wife of 68 years, in 1943.
Following the war he and Elsie moved to Opelika, Alabama so he could attend Auburn University and study civil engineering. While there, he and Elsie had their only daughter, Sherry. Upon graduation from Auburn University he and his family moved to Houston in 1949.
In Houston, Dale began his career with the Texas Highway Department which lasted throughout the 1960’s, where he served as Assistant District Engineer for the Houston District. He left the Highway Department when the Mayor of Houston asked him to become the Director of Traffic and Transportation for the city. After some years, Dale took a position with the Federal Department of Transportation in their Fort Worth district. After brief two years, he and Elsie moved back to Houston where he rejoined the Texas Highway Department. Upon retiring in 1978, Dale briefly worked as a part-time consultant on projects for the Texas Transportation Institute at Texas A&M University.
While living in Houston, he and Elsie became charter members of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Spring Branch. They were active in the church, until 2008 when they moved to an assisted living facility in Lakeway, Texas. Three years later, Elsie passed away and Dale continued to live there until his passing on August 22, 2018, he was 98 years old.
He is survived by his daughter, Sherry, his son-in-law Dick Lewis, his granddaughter Jennifer Stehling and her husband Thad and their daughter, Dale and Elsie’s great granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth.
