Dan Lockard, Jr.

March 10, 1932September 23, 2019

Dan Lockard, 87, was born March 10,1932 in Fourmile, Kentucky, passed at his home in Texas on September 23,2019.

Dan was a man of God first, a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather.

He was a Minister of the Gospel.

He was a 4 year Navy Veteran having served in the Korean War on the USS Kaskaskia.

He was an extremely talented musician who could play anything he picked up but most of all he could play the piano like no other.

Dan always had a story to tell or a trick up his sleeve. He loved playing practical jokes on his grandchildren. He enjoyed being with his family and church friends singing, playing, eating and praising God. His smile and laughter would brighten everyone's day. There was never a dull moment if he was around.

He has been an inspiration and role model for his children and grandchildren who have learned from him what it means to live a life that is pleasing to God. His love for everyone was limitless and he will be greatly missed but his legacy will continue.

He is survived by Norma ( Evans) Lockard, his wife of 68 years. His 5 children; Sharron Gay, Sherry, Lisa, Steve and Dawn. His 2 brothers; Ronnie and Lonnie. 15 grandchildren; Christy, Candi, Jade, April, Nikki, Joshua, Jessica, Steven, Daniel, Benjamin, David, Dustin, Kelsie, Kyle, and Daisy. 27 great grandchildren and 2 great - great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Dan Sr. and Mable (Clark) Lockard, his brothers; Louis, Wayne, and Jack, one sister; Wilma and one great-great granddaughter; Stella.

A visitation will be held in Dan's honor on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. inside the Chapel of American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. The Celebration of Life service will commence at 12:00 p.m., after which he will be escorted to the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038, where he will be laid to rest with honors. Following the committal ceremony, Dan's family would like to invite his friends and loved ones to a reception held in the Magnolia Room of American Heritage from 1:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., to gather in fellowship and continue sharing stories of the many lives he touched.

As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent to the ministry closest to Dad’s heart. Dad believed in and supported this ministry from its conception thirty-four years ago. Our spirits are lifted just to think of the countless lives forever changed through this ministry, and of the many who have passed on, now welcoming and rejoicing with our Dad in Heaven.

To Dan’s loving family,

Dan was a remarkable man. He always had a smile on his face and a funny tale to tell. His magic tricks were legendary and all the kids loved them. He loved God, his family and his friends with his whole heart and I will remember him always. I am praying for all the Lockard family.

Family,
There are no word's. They say time heals all wound's...it doesn't, the only thing that helps is to try to fill the void with good memories, until the great reunion. So many good memories, over many decades. I pray god grants you peace, and solace in the coming day's. Know you are all in my thoughts.

Brother Dan was such a precious friend and brother in Christ. He and sister Norma was like a mom and dad to Rick and I encouraging us in our ministry and supporting our travels as we spread the gospel. He was such a man of Integrity and men like him are hard to find, he lived the same whether he was at home, work, church he always showed the love of God to everyone he came in contact with . He was a man that could change the atmosphere when he walked into a room because he brought the presence of the Lord in with him. We love and miss him but know we will see him again someday . We pray God give comfort and peace to all the Lockhart family.

The family is in my prayers. All have always been so close knit with my family. And, Junior was so dear to my grandpa Mooneyham. Lean on Him now, and in days to come. He's our only true refuge. Much love and hugs. Sharris Castle
