Dana M. Tweedie

February 8, 1953February 22, 2014

Dana Monty Tweedie, "Tweedy,” of Kettle Creek, Spring, Texas, died on Saturday, the 22nd of February 2014, at a Galveston Hospital, at the age of 61.

He was born on the 8th of February 1953, in Milford, Connecticut, to Marion Tweedie and the late Dana Blake Tweedie. Mr. Tweedie grew up in Milford, and attended Jonathan Law High School where he played football for the Lawmen. He began his many years of public service on the Milford Police Force before continuing his law enforcement career in Texas. Dana took on several positions with the Houston Police Department before retiring after 26 years.

A motorcycle enthusiast, Dana, was a proud member of Los Carnales/La Familia club where he was blessed to find many of his closest friends. He began in 2006 with the North Houston Chapter. In 2007, he served as secretary of the Bay Area Chapter and in 2008 he was elected president. While he was president he was instrumental to not only the growth of the Bay Area but also throughout the club.

Mr. Tweedie is preceded in death by his father, Dana Blake Tweedie, and is survived by his loving friend and former wife, Linda Tweedie; his mother, Marion Tweedie; children, Jennifer Grimsley of Cheshire, Connecticut, Gregory Tweedie of Milford, Connecticut, Ryan Tweedie of Stratford, Connecticut and Kyle Tweedie of Houston; twin brothers, Bill Tweedie of Houston and James Tweedie of Milford, Connecticut; one grandchild, Brianna Grimsley; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the city of Houston and surrounding communities for its outpouring of support and generosity during this difficult time; to the Houston Police Officer’s Association and to the Galveston Police Department; to Geo. H. Lewis & Sons Funeral Directors and their associates for providing funeral goods and services, and Earthman Resthaven Cemetery for providing burial space and cemetery services. It is because of their generosity that all previous and subsequent donations received for burial expenses will be redirected solely towards officer Linda Tweedie’s medical expenses.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from eleven o’clock in the morning until eight o’clock in the evening on Thursday, the 27th of February, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

The funeral service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 28th of February, in the sanctuary of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road in Houston, where Dr. Tom Pace, Senior Pastor, and the Rev. Billy Tweedie, Head Priest of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, Austin, Texas, are to officiate.

The interment is to follow, via an escorted cortege, at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery in Houston.

“Tweedy” was caring, generous, and always put others needs before his own. He will be missed for his personality, drive, heart and his incredible story telling that always began with "What happened was..."
