Daniel Bennett Landry, 67, left this world for Heaven on November 21, 2018.
Dan was born in Houston on September 12, 1951 to Bennie Jean and Daniel Moses.
After graduating from high school, Dan began working in machine shops. As he worked his way up, he eventually opened his own shop. Through running and maintaining his own business he got interested in using computers to help keep track of everything, taught himself to program, and wrote some software to help him run his business. Over time his program grew in complexity and features, so much so that in 1988 he sold his shop, started selling his software to other machine shops, and opened Landry Business Services. He ran Landry Business Services successfully until 2014.
To know Dan is to know that he was smart and hard-working. He taught himself everything he knew and built a successful business from a high school education. He was also incredibly giving. He found delight in providing for his family and helping others.
Dan’s loves in life were golf, travel, shrimp, music, laughter, and above all, his family. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He adored his wife and loved simply to be with her. Dan was a wonderful, involved father and felt lucky to be dad to his children. He never met a baby he did not love and found great joy in spending time with his 9 grandchildren.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Moses Landry, and his mother-in-law, Helen Syptak.
Dan is survived by his cherished wife of 41 years, Carol Landry. He is survived by his children: Daniel Landry, Amy Hannan and husband Andrew, and Kristin King and husband Russell. He is survived by his grandchildren: Daniel Jakob Landry, Jessika Landry, Lauren Buss, Gregory Hannan, Campbell King, Bennett King, Richard Hannan, Elliott King, and Isaiah King.
He is also survived by his mother, Bennie Jean Gray Landry Webber. He is survived by his sister, Linda Landry Noble and husband Van, and two brothers, Richard Landry and wife Nancy, and Steven Landry and husband Karl. Dan is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and Gene Lamb.
Finally, Dan leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, and friends.
In November 2013, Dan was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia. Although the disease provided five challenging years as his health declined, Dan never lost his sweet spirit or his ready smile. As a final act of giving, Dan provided a donation after death to the Brain Endowment Bank at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He would have taken much pride in providing the National Institute of Health with information towards research and a cure.
There will be a visitation on Monday, November 26, 2018 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Brookside Funeral Home – Cypress Creek. Services honoring Dan’s life will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Brookside Funeral Home – Cypress Creek, 9149 Hwy 6 North. The burial will follow at Klein Memorial Park Cemetery located on Cypress North Houston. There will be a reception immediately following.
