He was educated in the Aldine Independent School District. He graduated from George Washington Carver High School, where he played football. After graduating in 1973, he attended Prairie View A&M University where he started his major in Industrial Education and Technology. He was also enrolled in Texas Southern University for a short period of time.
Danny had plenty of hobbies: racing cars, rebuilding motors, building and designing barbeque pits, making sausage, being an avid sports fan, making others laugh, and he was a very good cook. He absolutely loved feeding people. Danny was a “Jack of all trades”, he would try just about anything and was a very quick learner.
In the year of 1971, Danny met Cynthia Marie Newman. They married in 1974, and to this union was born a beautiful baby girl, Charmolet Danetta Bookman. He later married Pamela Davis in 2001, that union lasted for a short number of years.
Danny was employed in the family business “Bookman Construction Company”, in which his father Roger Lee Bookman, Sr. was the owner. Under his father’s watchful eye, he and his six brothers learned their trade for life. Cousins, classmates, and other close friends worked alongside him and his brothers in the business. Danny would draw up property plans and was very detailed in all that he did. He was a thinker and a continuous learner in all aspects of life. His grandmother, rest her soul in Heaven, had a saying “An idle mind is the Devil’s workshop”. Well Danny’s mind was never idle; he always had a project in progress. His hands and mind were always in work mode.
In the last years of his life Danny was faced with trials of illness and used a portable oxygen concentrator. Being a Bookman (a last name known all through his community) there was no stopping him in continuing doing all the things he loved.
On the morning of December 12, 2020, in loving care God called Danny home to eternal rest. Danny was preceded in death by his father Roger Lee Bookman, Sr.; mother Eunice Mae Bacon Bookman; grandmothers Nettie W. Bacon; Sergenne Bookman York; sisters Linnette Bookman Washington; Myra Nell Bookman Ross and Leslie Bookman.
Danny’s Most Precious Memories belong to his devoted and loving daughter: Charmolet Bookman Turner and the “Apple of his Heart”, his beautiful granddaughter; Miya Gvonne Turner.
He leaves to cherish his Memories: Three Amazing Sisters – Wanda Jean Bookman; Theresa Ann Bookman and Cathy Louise Bookman. Six Wonderful Brothers – Roger Lee Bookman, Jr. (Jeanette); Dennis Wayne Bookman; David Charles Bookman; Billy Joe Bookman; Curtis Bookman; and Jerry Bookman. Along with a very caring Sister-In- Law (Jeanette); nephews; nieces, cousins and a host of friends will forever miss him.
Danny led a life that was filled with a lifetime of memories, which has impacted many family and friends in ways that will never be forgotten.
Danny’s memory will remain alive in the many stories family and friends will share, in the many lives he touched and forever in the hearts of his only child (Charm) and only grandchild (Miya).
Danny Lewis Bookman will be missed.
