Dan Dierking was born on the 27th of December 1948, in Higginsville, Missouri to parents Walter and Dorothy Dierking. After graduating from the University of Central Missouri and serving in the United States Army, Dan moved to Houston, TX where he raised his family and resided for nearly his entire life. He went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, the 27th of October 2024. He was 75 years of age.
Dan’s life is best described as a life of service. In childhood, he served his community with the Boy Scouts, earning distinction as an eagle scout. Even as an adult, he returned to volunteer with up-and-coming scouts. He served his country in the United States Army Transportation Core. He served in his professional life, both his managers and his employees. He served at Second Baptist Church - as a Deacon and in an almost untold number of additional capacities - for over 40 years. He served his family as husband, father, and grandfather (“pop” to be more precise).
He served not out of ambition or ego, but because it was his God-given mission to take care of people. Even in his last couple years as Alzheimer's disease constrained his ability to participate in many activities, he continued serving his memory care community by helping the nursing staff with their rounds.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Dorothy Dierking, and his wife, Mary Anne Dierking. He is survived by his siblings, Debby Fox, Angie Redmond, and Doug Dierking, his children, Leah and Howard, and his grandchildren, Grace, Sarah, and Abigail.
A memorial service is to be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Friday the 8th of November in the Hankamer Chapel of Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway in Houston, where the Rev. Jerry Towne is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to join the family during a reception in the B Parlor.
Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at South Park cemetery in Pearland.
In lieu of customary remembrances, donations may be made in Dan’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
