He was born in St Louis, Missouri, on December 17, 1946, to parents Henry and Eleanor Stevens. Danny W. Stevens, Sr., graduated from Roosevelt High School and received BS-BA from University of Missouri in St. Louis. He married his beloved wife, Rita Dale Stevens, on May 17, 1969. Danny W. Stevens, Sr., had a career with Southern Pacific Railroad for 25 years and then retired from Walgreens. He served in the United States Army - Rank E-5 from First Calvary Division in Vietnam 1966-1968 - through which he received a National Defense Medal, a Vietnamese Service Medal with 2 bronze stars, a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with device 1960, 2 o/s bars, as well as Marksman and Good Conduct medals. Danny had a passion for films, family fun, helping others, chess, and baseball. He loved his home team the Cardinals and the Houston Astros. Danny was a black belt in Karate and loved to read, but above all, his true passion was his family.
He is survived by his wife Rita of 49 years; daughters Tammy Christine Raydon and husband Russell; Michele Rita Friedman and partner Pat Goldsmith; Daniele Angela Linares and husband Brock; son Danny Wayne Stevens, Jr., and wife Jill; grandchildren Ashley Raydon, Russell Raydon, Brittany Friedman, Cody Friedman, Madeline Friedman, Eva Friedman, Alex Linares, Christopher Linares, Danny Stevens, III, Eric Stevens, Jeremy Stevens; great-grandchildren Preston and Aubrey Olney. Danny was the youngest of seven children; Janet, Brenda, Ron, John, Eleanor, and Jimmy.
A visitation will be held in Danny's honor on Monday, July 2, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and a Celebration of Life held Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. A Committal Service will follow on Tuesday July 3, 2018, at 11:15 a.m. at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038 with military honors to be rendered.
